Words I Like

Every so often I come across a word I like. It could be the way it sounds, or the way it’s used, or how it looks. Whatever the reason is… it’s time for another list!!
 Avarice: n. Extreme greed for wealth or material gain.
Diatribe: n. A bitter, abusive denunciation.  A forceful and bitter verbal attack against someone, or something.
Dithyramb: n. a wild choral hymn. a passionate or inflated speech, poem, or other writing.
Hubris: n. Excessive pride or self-confidence. Excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods, leading to nemesis.
Malaise: n. A complex of problems affecting a country, economy, etc. A general sense of unease or depression. A Vague feeling of bodily discomfort.
Manifesto: n. A public declaration of policy and aims; especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate.
Nefarious: adj. Wicked or criminal.
Obstreperous: Noisy and difficult to control. Noisy in an unruly and aggressive way, usually in defiance of authority.
Ostensibly: adv. Apparently or purportedly, but perhaps not actually.
Threnody: n. A lament. From the Greek word threnoidia, ‘wailing song’.
 Totalitarian: adj. Relating to a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state.
Vituperative: adj. Bitter and abusive.
meh… there’s some sort of theme here isn’t there?
